Day 32 – Mammoth Lakes

Ten trail miles and then 3.5 bonus miles on a side trail and a bus into Mammoth was on the table for the day. With no more than a handful of granola to fuel myself, I was on the trail by 5:30 and racing towards town. Luckily the snow was not to bad and the going was good. After 6 days of cold, my phone and external battery were both dead. The 220 mile section with Mt Whitney was about the max I could make it through. I turned off and hiked the 3.5 miles to Horseshoe Lake where I took a shuttle into town. First stop was coffee and charging my phone. Then the grocery to resupply. At that point I received a message from a hiker in town, Salsa, who hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in 2014. We went to lunch, he let me shower and stay at his house, we watched hockey, drank beer and went out on the town. It was a quality day.

Miles hiked: 10 (trail miles)
