I got up at berthoud pass and was reminded of how late I had hiked last night. I was tired, my feet hurt and I was stiff like I was 70. It was very tough to get going. On this rare morning I actually made a warm cup of coffee to get me going. The day began with a tough climb up to 12k feet where the wind was incredibly strong. A few ups and down later totaling close to 10k feet of elevation gain and I met my friend Erich who came out to hike a few miles with me. I haven’t seen a familiar face in months and it really boosted my morale to have a friend. Then when I got to town more friends were waiting for me. Jeff, Chass and their one year old son Jett were some welcome sights. The trail had been really tough lately and I really needed something like seeing some friends to pick up my spirits. I was able to take a couple showers and even do laundry while in town. It all worked out great today!
